What are Futures Conferences?

Each year Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) and Finland Futures Academy (FFA) at the University of Turku organises its annual Futures Conference, an invaluable opportunity for meeting, exchanging and debating current topics related in futures studies and foresight.

With approximately 200–350 individual participants attending from all over the world, international researchers, organisational delegates, business people and students convene to the FFRC annual conferences in the spirit of futures-oriented information, research, analysis and collaboration.

Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) works with a transdisciplinary approach in an international environment. The cornerstones of our activities are on developing academic futures studies, critical interdisciplinary research, high quality education, strategic and business foresight and insightfully produced futures knowledge. Finland Futures Academy (FFA) is a network of nine Finnish universities promoting and co-ordinating academic futures education in Finland. The network is co-ordinated by the FFRC at the University of Turku. ​The FFA aims to provide the platform for transforming national expertise into worldwide excellence. Read more.

Sustainability Transformations (SusTra) is a doctoral education pilot implemented jointly by ten Finnish universities and the Finnish Environment Institute. The doctoral education pilot will train 40 doctoral graduates in 2025–2027. Sustainability transformations research is interdisciplinary and solution-oriented, focusing on climate change, biodiversity loss and depletion of natural resources. Themes of research include, citizens’ lifestyles, planetary health and well-being, production and consumption, governance and law, and cultural transformations. Read more.
